Gifted and Talented Parent Orientation

 

         The GCES Gifted and Talented (G/T) teachers will hold an orientation this year or all parents on September 19th, 2019. It will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m., in the Cafeteria.  This orientation is for any parent who wants general information about the G/T Program. The orientation will focus on the four basic parts of the G/T program: Primary Talent Development, Instructional Seminars, Curriculum Extension Units, and G/T math for 4th and 5th graders. Lora Hobbs and Rachael Wood will conduct the session.  If you are unable to attend, but still have questions about our program, please e-mail either one of the presenters. (Lora_Hobbs@hcpss.org & rwood@hcpss.org) The presentation slides will also be available on the Gorman Crossing website after the event.

 

G/T Math Nomination Process for NEW 4th and 5th Grade Howard County Students

 

         Howard County Public Schools are currently in the process of accepting nominations for 4th and 5th grade students NEW to Howard County Public Schools for possible inclusion in the G/T Mathematics Program. If you have a child, new to Howard County Public Schools in 4th or 5th grade whom you wish to nominate for G/T Math, please submit your request for testing to either Mrs. Hobbs (Lora_Hobbs@hcpss.org) or Mrs. Wood (rwood@hcpss.org) as soon as possible. General questions regarding your child's math placement should be directed to their teacher

 

SEMINAR INTEREST FORMS

 

Any interested student in grades 3-5 will have the opportunity to participate in instructional seminars this year. Presentations from Mrs. Hobbs & Mrs. Wood were held during the first week of school in each grade level team.  Students will have the opportunity to sign up for the following seminars:

            Grade 3- Habitat Helpers & I-Spy (forms due 9/20)

            Grade 4- Engineering & Habitat Helpers (forms due 9/20)

            Grade 5- Fantasy Football & Flight Frenzy (forms due 9/13, or e-mail Mrs. Wood)

Interest forms are available in each team’s pod area and were given to homeroom teachers. We will post information and schedules in each team area for your child when the groups begin.

Howard County G/T Program Parent Academy, Oct. 16

HCPSS families interested in the Gifted and Talented (G/T) Program are invited to come learn about the advanced-level offerings available through the G/T Education Program and how their students can become involved.

The evening will begin with an overview of G/T Education Program offerings at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Following the general session, parents and community members will have an opportunity to meet by school level for a question and answer session.
