PBIS Celebration

Mon, 12/18/2017 - 1:48pm

We are so excited to be working toward our second PBIS school-wide celebration being held next Friday, December 22, 2017. Students K-5 have been surveyed about how they would like to spend an hour of their time on this day. The top six choices from the survey are below, and each student will pick one area in which to attend.

Intermediate (3rd – 5th Grades) Celebration (9:30 – 10:30)

  • BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) – Permission slip and device required
  • Dance Party
  • Drawing/Art
  • Electronics Room
  • Extra Recess
  • Sports Rotation (Limbo, Hoops, Soccer)

Primary (K - 2nd Grades) Celebration (2:30 – 3:30)

  • Cheerleading with Mrs. Tasch
  • Dance Party
  • Drawing/Art
  • Electronics Room
  • Extra Recess
  • Sports Rotation (Limbo, Hoops, Soccer)

As is the case with the weekly and bi-weekly rewards, students earn Gordy Bucks when they are “caught” being Respectful, Responsible, and/or Ready. Each grade level set a certain amount of Gordy Bucks each student must earn in order to “buy into” the celebration. Prices vary from $5 - $10 Gordy Bucks.

If you wish to come join the fun, please email Mrs. Tasch, GCES PBIS Coach at: katie_tasch@hcpss.org

Please note, while there are consequences for students who received 2 or more Reflection Forms and/or Office Referrals during 12/11 – 12/22, ALL students WILL attend the celebration at some point. If a child received 2 or more Reflection Forms during the above stated time frame, s/he will attend the celebration for 40 minutes. Any child who received an Office Referral will attend the celebration for 30 minutes. During the time the child is not at the celebration, s/he will be either making up unfinished work or reflecting on how to earn the full hour at the next celebration.

We look forward to celebrating with ALL GCES students!

Spirit Week 12/18 – 12/22

The Gorman Gurus (5th grade student leaders) have picked special events to embody school spirit in the week leading up to Winter Break! Please encourage your child(ren) to participate in the below spirit day activities:

  • Tuesday 12/19 – Cultural/Heritage Tuesday*
  • Wednesday 12/20 – Hat Day
  • Thursday 12/21 – Throw Back
  • Friday 12/22 – PJ Day

*Dress up in a way that celebrates your culture, background, and/or heritage. This could range anywhere from wearing the colors of the flag of your native or family’s birth country (for example, Mrs. Tasch's family originates from Ireland, so she will be decked out head to toe in the colors of the Ireland flag - green, white, and orange), or wearing special clothes worn in your native or your family's native country. If anyone is not sure from where s/he originates, feel free to pick your favorite country, or somewhere you wish to travel, and wear the color of that country’s flag. Teachers will be encouraged to do a special community circle on this day to allow students to share about the way they chose to dress.

Special Note: Please be mindful of PE days and be sure to wear or pack sneakers!
